"धी" का अर्थ है "बुद्धि"। जिसमें यह गुण है वही पूर्ण 'पुरुष' है। पुरुष की पहचान वस्त्र या मूंछों से नहीं होती। जो द्वंद्वात्मक जगत के परे रहता है वहीं पुरुष है। ऐसी पदवी पाने के लिए उसे बाह्य शत्रुओं के बदले आंतरिक शत्रुओं पर विजय पानी चाहिए। सुख और दुःख के इन युग्म शत्रुओं पर विजय पाना ही वीरता है।

अच्छा! तुम्हारी मन में एक और संदेह उठा होगा। तुम अब भी पूछोगे "ऐसी विजय से क्या लाभ होगा?" मैं तुम्हें विश्वास दिलाता हूं कि इससे तुम्हें अमरता प्राप्त होगी। संसार की कोई भी वस्तु ऐसा परमानंद नहीं दे सकती। उनसे केवल आंशिक सुख मिल सकता है, लेकिन पूर्ण परमानंद नहीं। जब तुम सुख और दुःख से परे, उससे ऊंची अवस्था को प्राप्त करते हो, तभी पूर्ण स्वतंत्र परमानंद का लाभ पा सकते हो। "अर्जुन! तुम पुरुषों में श्रेष्ठ हो इसलिए तुम्हें क्षुद्र सांसारिक शत्रुओं पर विजय पाने की आवश्यकता नहीं है। तुम तो अमरता का परम सुख पाने के योग्य हो।"

“Dhee means intelligence; it is the quality that makes a person a perfect person (purusha). It is not the dress
or the moustache that marks the person. Manhood comes with the rejection of the dual. To deserve the status, one
ought to earn victory over internal, rather than external, foes. The exploit is to conquer the twin foes of joy and
grief.
“Well, you might have another doubt also. (Your heart is a nest of doubts!) You might still ask what the gain
of victory is. The gain is immortality, let Me assure you. Things of the world cannot confer that state of bliss. They
can give only relative, not absolute bliss. When you rise above joy and grief, bliss is absolute, independent, full.
Arjuna! You are a man among men, so you have no need of this paltry victory over worldly enemies. You deserve
the bliss of immortality.”
