               यज्ञ (Yajna)

द्रव्ययज्ञास्तपोयज्ञा योगयज्ञास्तथापरे।
स्वाध्यायज्ञानयज्ञाश्च यतयः संशितव्रताः ।। ४/२८

अपनी शुद्ध चित्त-वृत्ति और मानसिक भावनाओं के शुद्ध जल द्वारा आत्मलिंग का अभिषेक करो। जब चित्त एक ओर जा रहा हो और इंद्रियां दूसरी ओर तब मनुष्य इस दुविधा से व्याकुल हो जाता है। इसलिए मोह को दूर रखो। ऐसा होने पर जो कुछ भी तुम करोगे वह यज्ञ बन जाएगा। वह उसके लिए बलिदान माना जायेगा। जो कुछ तुम बोलोगे शुद्ध मंत्र बन जायेंगे, जहां तुम्हारे पग पड़ेंगे, वह स्थान तीर्थ हो जायेगा।

अर्जुन ! मैं तुम्हें यज्ञ के बारे में भी कुछ कहूंगा। चित्त वृत्तियों की सब व्याकुलताओं को रोककर, शांत चित्त होकर सुनो। लोग द्रव्य-यज्ञ, तपो-यज्ञ, योग-यज्ञ इत्यादि की बातें करते हैं। पृथ्वी में यदि एक गड्ढा खोदा जाए तो निकाली हुई मिट्टी का पास एक टीला बन जाएगा। जहां गड्ढा होगा वहां टीला भी होगा। कोई भी गड्ढा बिना टीले के नहीं होता। एक जगह जितना धन एकत्रित हो जाता है, तब वहां उतना ही दान होना चाहिए। अपने धन का उचित उपयोग क्या है ? गौ, भूमि और कौशल का दान, द्रव्य-यज्ञ माना जाता है। फिर सब शारीरिक व मानसिक क्रियायें और वाणी साधना के उपयोग में लाए जाने पर, तपो-यज्ञ कही जाती है। एक बार भोजन ना मिलने से यदि तुम कमजोर हो जाओ तो वह तप कैसे माना जायेगा ? कर्म करते हुए भी कर्म में न बंधना ही योग-यज्ञ है।

और स्वाध्याय यज्ञ?  इसका अर्थ है मोक्ष और स्वतंत्रता की ओर तुम्हें ले जाने वाले पवित्र ग्रंथों का नम्रता व श्रद्धा से अध्ययन करना। इस प्रकार का अध्ययन उन ऋषियों का ऋण चुकाना है जिन्होंने ग्रंथों का संकलन किया। दूसरा ज्ञान-यज्ञ है। इसका अर्थ साक्षात दिखने वाली वस्तु का ज्ञान नहीं किंतु अदृश्य और अगोचर का ज्ञान है। (परोक्ष ज्ञान, अपरोक्ष ज्ञान नहीं)। इस ज्ञान से संबंधित शास्त्रों को सुनो - अध्ययन करो। उनकी शिक्षा पर अपने मन में विचार करो और उनके पक्ष-विपक्ष की तुलना करो। यह ज्ञान-यज्ञ है। वृद्ध, विद्वान व आध्यात्मिक अनुभवियों द्वारा प्राप्त आत्म तत्व के ज्ञान को समझने की उत्कंठा भी ज्ञान है।

“Do the besprinkling (abhisheka) of the Atma symbolized by the oval stone (Atma-linga) with the pure waters of your own mental impulses. When the mind moves in one direction and the senses in another, you are doubly confused. So, keep attachment afar. When that is done, whatever you do becomes a sacrifice (yajna).
Whatever you speak becomes a holy mantra; wherever you plant your foot renders that place holy.

“Arjuna! I shall tell you something about sacrifice or spiritual offerings (yajna) also. Listen calmly, controlling all agitations of the mind. People talk of performing a material sacrifice, offering penance as sacrifice, a yogic sacrifice, etc. If a pit is dug, the earth excavated becomes a mound by its side; there is no pit without a mound.
When riches accumulate in one place, there must be corresponding charity too. The proper utilization of one’s riches is material sacrifice. What is proper utilization? Gift of cows, of lands, of skill are included under material
sacrifice.
“Again, when all physical activities, mental activities, and speech are utilized for spiritual discipline, then it
becomes offerings of penance (tapoyajna). How can it be spiritual penance (tapas) if you have lain down due to
weakness arising from missing a meal?
“Doing action but yet remaining unbound by action, that is yogic spiritual offering.
“And study of the scriptures? That means studying with humility and reverence the sacred scriptures that lead you to liberation. This study is the means to repay the debt due to the sages who put the scriptures together.
“The next one is the sacrifice involving spiritual knowledge (jnana-yajna). By this is meant not the knowledge of the visible and perceptible but the wisdom of the invisible and imperceptible. Listen to the scriptures that
are related to this wisdom, study them, and ponder over the teachings in your mind, weighing the pros and cons; this is called the sacrifice involving knowledge. Wisdom (jnana) means also the eagerness to realize the reality of
the soul (Atma-thathwa) through inquiry from elders and those who have spiritual experience.
