धर्म शब्द का मूल अक्षर ध्र है, जिसका अर्थ है 'धारण', अर्थात धर्म वह है जो धारण किया जाता है। देश भगवान की देह है जो धर्म रूपी वस्त्र धारण करने से रक्षित है।धर्म ही देश को सौंदर्य और आनंद  देता है,यही पीतांबर है,भारत का पवित्र परिधान है,आत्म- सम्मान और गौरव की इसी से रक्षा होती है,शीत से बचाव यही करता है और जीवन को सौंदर्य भी यही प्रदान करता है। इसी के कारण देश आत्म-सम्मान रक्षित है। वस्त्र से जिस प्रकार व्यक्ति की प्रतिष्ठा जानी जाती है,उसी प्रकार धर्म जनता के गौरव का माप है।

The word dharma is derived from the root dhri, meaning “wear”; dharma is that which is worn. The nation
(desa), the body of the Lord, is protected by the dharma it wears; the dharma also gives the body beauty and
joy; it is the yellow garment, the holy apparel of India. It guards both honour and dignity; it protects from chill
and lends charm to life. Dharma preserves the self-respect of this land. Just as clothes maintain the dignity of the
person who wears them, so dharma is the measure of the dignity of a people.
